An American philosopher in France, working at the intersection of continental philosophy, private markets, and the digital humanities.
I was trained in Atlanta, at Emory and at Holy Spirit College, and then in Paris, where I took a doctorate in philosophy at the Institut Catholique in international convention with Australian Catholic University, under Emmanuel Falque and Robyn Horner, with a thesis that reads the whole of Maurice Blondel’s project as a spiritual realism. That work has kept me in nineteenth- and twentieth-century French philosophy since: Blondel and the spiritualist line behind him, the phenomenology that came after him, and the philosophy of religion that grew out of both. I write on it and translate it, and I teach it as Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Institut Catholique de Paris.
Since 2017 I have been Secretary of the International Network in Philosophy of Religion, convening its seminars in France, Italy, Switzerland, the United States and Britain, and I co-founded its journal, Crossing, which I edit, and its foundation in the United States. With Cascade Books I co-edit the series Thinking Philosophy of Religion.
The same habits of research carry into private markets. I am Vice President at Rowe Tomes Advisors, an investment bank for consumer brands, where I work on sector research and business development, helping with sourcing and origination; before that I did buy-side and sell-side work with Arwood Partners.
Gondolin Labs was founded in 2026 and represents the culmination of the systematic design and implementation of digital research infrastructure. Constituted for my professional and academic work, its current focus is open-access digital humanities.
